Product Information
1,2-Dimethylnaphthalene is a molecule that is found in coal tar. It has been shown to bind to the benzodiazepine site on GABA receptors with high affinity. The mechanism of activation of this receptor has not been determined, but it is hypothesized that the activation energy for binding to the zirconium oxide surface may be involved. The activation energy for the reaction of 1,2-dimethylnaphthalene with iron fe has also been calculated and was found to be 5.5 kcal/mol. This reaction is an acid-catalyzed hydrogenation of dimethylnaphthalene with hydrogen gas as a catalyst. The structural analysis shows that there are two possible isomers of this molecule: trans-1,2-dimethylnaphthalene and cis-1,2-dimethylnaphthalene.
