Description:

1,2-Dihydroxynaphthalene is an organic compound that has been shown to inhibit the growth of wild-type strains of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). The mechanism of inhibition is not well understood but may be due to transport properties or inhibitory properties. 1,2-Dihydroxynaphthalene inhibits the activity of DNA polymerase and RNA polymerase. This compound also has strong antioxidant properties and can inhibit the growth of bacteria by preventing the conversion of p-hydroxybenzoic acid into protocatechuic acid.
