Product Information

Name:
N-Chloroacetanilide
Synonyms:
  • Acetanilide, N-chloro-
  • acetamide, N-chloro-N-phenyl-
Description:

N-Chloroacetanilide is an organic solvent with a chemical formula of CHClNO. It is a chlorinated derivative of acetanilide that is used in the manufacture of chloroacetanilides. N-Chloroacetanilide can also be used as a reagent for the synthesis of other chlorinated derivatives, such as chloroamine, or to generate peroxides from hydrochloric acid and chlorine. The reaction mechanism for this process is catalysed by metal ions and proceeds through a series of steps. The rate at which the reaction takes place depends on the concentration of chloride ion present, with higher concentrations resulting in faster reactions. N-Chloroacetanilide does not react with hydrogen chloride gas, but does react when heated with hydrochloric acid in the presence of catalysts.
