Description:

Butyl oxamate (BO) is a reactive biofuel that is used as an additive to improve the stability of fuels. The oxidative stability of BO-treated fuel was increased by more than 20% in comparison with untreated fuel, and the production of alkoxy radicals decreased by more than 50%. In addition, BO is a good stabilizer for amides. This molecule has been shown to have anticancer properties and can be used as a corrosion inhibitor for hydrochloric acid and carbonyl compounds. BO also has anti-allergic effects due to its ability to inhibit the release of histamine. It is also known to have fatty acid-like properties, including being able to act as an antioxidant and lower cholesterol levels in the blood.
BO can react with oxygen at high temperatures or with metal ions such as iron or manganese, forming a reactive species called methoxy radical.
