Product Information
- Methane, Dichloroiodo-
Dichloroiodomethane is a volatile organic compound that is commonly used as an analytical method for wastewater treatment. It is also used in the production of pharmaceuticals, and as a precursor to polyurethanes and other compounds. Dichloroiodomethane is stable in the presence of fatty acids and fatty acid derivatives, but reacts with carbonyl groups to form acid. The breakpoint for dichloroiodomethane toxicity in mammals has been determined to be 1.5 ppm. Dichloroiodomethane can also react with aliphatic hydrocarbons to form carcinogenic potentials, such as chloronaphthalene and chlorophenols. This chemical has a high second-order rate constant, which means it breaks down quickly in the presence of light or air. Dichloroiodomethane can also react with iodoacetic acid to produce reactive alkyl iodides that are carcinogenic in mammalian cells.
