Dipropyl sulfone is a chemical compound that belongs to the class of dipropyl sulfones. It is a colorless oily liquid with a pungent odor. Dipropyl sulfone is used as a drug-solvent, stabilizer, and an additive in pharmaceuticals. Dipropyl sulfone reacts with hydrogen fluoride to form methanesulfonic acid and dipropylene oxide. The rate of reaction increases when magnesium chloride is added. This reaction can be useful for the synthesis of cationic polymers for use in polymerase chain reactions.
