1,5-Diacetoxynaphthalene is an organic compound that has been found to yield 1,4-diacetoxybenzene and 1,2,3-triacetoxybenzene upon chlorination. It is also a precursor to the analogues of anthracyclines and lactones. This compound can be deacylated with acetic acid in the presence of sodium acetate or by using thiourea in the presence of water to form aldehydes, which are then converted into cyclic carbonates. 1,5-Diacetoxynaphthalene can be halogenated with bromine to yield bromoacetamide derivatives. Bromination also produces halogenated quinones that are used for synthesizing benzopyrone derivatives.
