Quinaldine Ethiodide is a basic dye that is used in the production of styryl dyes. It reacts with malonic acid to produce an insoluble compound, malonate quinaldine ethiodide. Quinaldine Ethiodide is also used as a catalyst for the production of sodium hydroxide solution and as a reagent in organic synthesis. Quinaldine Ethiodide can be used to make reactive dyes, which are used in the textile industry to dye wool and other animal fibers. The use of this compound as a reactive dye has been shown to have some drawbacks due to its sensitivity in acidic media and its tendency to cause fading of dyed fabrics.
