3,3-Diphenylacrylic acid is a benzophenone and an alkyl ester that has been shown to be damaging to human skin. It absorbs UV radiation, and is used as a UV absorber in products such as microcapsules. 3,3-Diphenylacrylic acid can be synthesized by reacting benzophenone with acrylic acid. The resulting product can be used in various applications where it is necessary to absorb UV radiation including for the prevention of sunburn, the treatment of psoriasis, or the protection against radiation exposure.
