2-(Methylamino)phenol (2-MAP) is a synthetic chemical that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory properties. It is an acceptor of electron density, which means it can be used in the detection of other molecules. 2-MAP has been shown to reduce neuroinflammation following irradiation in rats by blocking the production of proinflammatory cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor alpha and interleukin-1 beta. This drug may be a potential therapeutic for brain injury and stroke due to its ability to inhibit the production of reactive oxygen species. Clinical studies are currently being conducted to determine its efficacy in humans.
