2-Methyl-1-phenylpropan-1-ol is a nonpolar organic chemical that is used as a solvent and a hydrogen bond donor. It can be synthesized by the catalysis of hydrogen fluoride with an acid catalyst. 2-Methyl-1-phenylpropan-1-ol reacts with fatty acids to form esters, which can be cleaved by the addition of a halide such as chlorine. The reaction solution in this process contains naphthalene and propiophenone, which are formed as byproducts.
