Description:

3-Oxo-3-phenylpropanoic acid is a protonated molecule that contains nitrogen and carbon atoms. It has been shown to have antibacterial activity in biological studies, where it was found to be active against Gram-positive bacteria. 3-Oxo-3-phenylpropanoic acid binds to the fatty acid component of the bacterial cell wall and inhibits the synthesis of membrane lipids. This results in an increase in the permeability of the cell membrane, leading to its death. 3-Oxo-3-phenylpropanoic acid is also able to inhibit growth at low concentrations due to its hydroxyl group.
