Description:

3-Methyl-4-nitrosophenol is a byproduct of the synthesis of sodium nitrate. It has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on mitochondrial polymerization, which would lead to decreased ATP production. 3-Methyl-4-nitrosophenol also inhibits the transport chain and reduces the amount of NADH produced in the mitochondria, which can lead to cell death. The reduction products are chloride, chromophore, hydrogen chloride, alicyclic compounds, introducing active methylene, protocatechuic acid.
