It can be used to produce other compounds through the reduction of potassium dichromate. 2,5-DT has been shown to be genotoxic in animals. This substance has also been found to induce allergic symptoms in humans and toxicity studies have shown it to be toxic to human serum cells. Human exposure may occur if skin contact occurs with this substance or if it is inhaled as dust particles. 2,5-DT is not carcinogenic in animals, but there are no studies on its carcinogenic effects in humans.
