Phenylenediamine is a peroxide that has been used as an intermediate in the production of anilines. Phenylenediamine is a primary amine that can be reduced to give secondary amines, or oxidized to give nitro compounds. Phenylenediamine can also be bifunctional, forming nitro groups on one end and phenolic groups on the other end. The nitro groups are typically reduced to form the corresponding amino group. Phenylenediamine is used in silver ion photography and has been shown to reduce plasma levels of carbamic acid and increase plasma levels of hydrogen bond. This substance also has functional groups such as fluorescers and hydrogen bonds.
