Description

Dimethyl citraconate is a polyvinyl compound that can be used as a solid catalyst. It has the ability to react with polycarboxylic acids to form esters and amides. Dimethyl citraconate has been shown to catalyze the reaction between nitroalkanes and protocatechuic acid, forming an ester. The analytical method for determining the concentration of dimethyl citraconate relies on measuring its absorbance at 290 nm after adding nitroethane and protocatechuic acid. This compound also has reactive properties, which allow it to cross-link fatty acids together in order to form a sealant or adhesive.
