Benzenesulfinic acid is an antimicrobial agent that has been shown to have anti-inflammatory activity. It binds to the CB2 receptor and increases the mitochondrial membrane potential by inhibiting the reaction of ATP synthesis. Benzenesulfinic acid also inhibits amine oxidation and can be used in detergent compositions that are exposed to light. The mechanism of benzenesulfinic acid is based on a trifluoroacetic acid reaction with sodium carbonate, which produces benzenesulfinic acid and sodium salts. The reaction solution is then mixed with an amine, such as protocatechuic acid, which reacts with benzenesulfinic acid to form a sulfonic acid. This process leads to an increase in the oxidative capacity of the cells, which can help protect against cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
