Name:
1-Chloro-3,5-dinitrobenzene
Synonyms:
  • 3,5-Dinitrochlorobenzene
  • m-Dinitrochlorobenzene
  • Benzene, 1-chloro-3,5-dinitro-
Description:

1-Chloro-3,5-dinitrobenzene is a chemical that is used in a vaccine that protects against tuberculosis. The vaccine contains three components: 3,5-dinitrobenzene (1), methylprednisolone (2), and red blood cells (3). It works by exposing the body to the active ingredient 1, which causes the body to develop immunity against tuberculosis. This chemical also has an effect on skin tests; it causes hypersensitivity reactions when applied to the skin and may cause carcinogenesis in high concentrations. 3,5-Dinitrobenzene can be fatal if inhaled or ingested in large quantities because it is toxic to red blood cells and can lead to methemoglobinemia.
