- Oxalanilide
Oxanilide is a hydrochloric acid derivative with antimicrobial activity. It is an aromatic compound that reacts with the nitrogen atoms of oxanilide to form a cationic transition state (Ox-Nu), which binds to the receptor binding site of the bacterial membrane, inhibiting the synthesis of fatty acids and reactive oxygen species. Oxanilide's reactive properties lead to its ability to kill bacteria by reacting with the hydroxyl group on malonic acid, forming a copper complex. The thermal expansion property of oxanilide allows for it to be used as an additive in plastics or rubber products. Oxanilide can also react with phenoxy groups in plastics or rubber products, leading to cross-linking
