1,2-Dinitroglycerin solution is a nitric oxide (NO) donor that is used in the form of a solution. It is an enzyme inhibitor that inhibits the activity of nitric oxide synthase and guanylate cyclase, which are enzymes involved in the synthesis of nitric oxide. Nitrite ions increase NO production by reacting with oxygen to form peroxynitrite, which reacts with superoxide radicals to form NO. Dinitrate also binds to hemoglobin, causing it to release oxygen more easily into tissue cells. This promotes vasodilation and lowers blood pressure. 1,2-Dinitroglycerin solution has been used as a sample preparation reagent for kinetic analysis of enzymes that produce NO or use NO as a substrate. Disulfide bonds are formed when two cysteine residues react together from separate proteins through an S-S bond forming a new covalent bond between them. Disulfide bonds are found in many proteins, including some
