Product Information
- Decanoic acid, 5-oxo-
5-Oxodecanoic acid (5-ODA) is an organic compound that was synthesized using a novel enantioselective process. 5-ODA is prepared by the hydrolysis of 5-oxohexanoic acid with hydrochloric acid in the presence of S. cerevisiae. It has been shown that 5-ODA is taken up by mitochondria and accumulates in fatty acids, which are hydrolyzed to produce acetyl-CoA, butyrate, and propionate. This accumulation of acetyl-CoA leads to mitochondrial biogenesis and increased ATP production. The chiral nature of 5-ODA provides a target for asymmetric catalysis, which may be used to monitor the concentration of this compound in biological systems.
