2-Methylheptan-2-ol is an industrial solvent that is used in the production of pharmaceuticals, such as formic acid, and vitamin C. It can be recycled and reused in the process of making formic acid. 2-Methylheptan-2-ol has been shown to react with cyclopropanes to produce unreacted cyclopropanes and monoxide. This product has also been shown to react with carboxylic acids to produce alcohols, carboxylic acids, and ethynylation products.
