Description:

Methylene diacetate is an organic compound that can be synthesized by reacting acetaldehyde with calcium stearate. Methylene diacetate is a cross-linking agent that reacts readily with active methylene groups in polymers, yielding products with high resistance to heat and light. The reaction solution was found to contain the following reaction products: alkanoic acid, calcium stearate, and carbonyl group. Kinetic data for this reaction are available for both the forward and reverse reactions. The activation energies for these reactions were determined as follows:
The forward reaction has an activation energy of 3.2 kcal/mol and the reverse reaction has an activation energy of 2.3 kcal/mol.
