Description:

N-Phenylthiobenzamide is a hydrogen bond acceptor and is used as a selective inhibitor of mitochondrial ATP synthase. This drug has been shown to inhibit the growth of malignant cells in cell culture. N-Phenylthiobenzamide also increases the mitochondrial membrane potential and inhibits the production of reactive oxygen species, which are involved in cancer development. The use of this drug as an experimental model for cancer research has been investigated by observing its effects on lung fibroblasts. The susceptibility of cancer cells to this drug may be due to its ability to induce expression or activation of efflux pumps.
