Pyridine-2-carboxylic acid hydrochloride is an organic compound that contains a hydroxyl group and a chlorine atom. It is used as a precursor to picolinic acid, which is a benzimidazole derivative. Pyridine-2-carboxylic acid hydrochloride has been shown to inhibit the proliferation of cells in culture, but does not affect cell viability. This compound also demonstrates receptor activity, with intramolecular hydrogen bonding. Pyridine-2-carboxylic acid hydrochloride has been shown to increase the growth of plants by stimulating photosynthesis and cell division, as well as inhibiting plant respiration.
