Description:

Tricosane is a model system for wastewater treatment. It has been shown to have antibacterial efficacy against Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus aureus. Tricosane is also used as an analytical method for the determination of hydroxyl groups in organic compounds and provides an activity index that can be used to identify unknown substances. Tricosane is also able to inhibit acetylcholinesterase and has been shown to have a carcinogenic effect on adrenocortical cells in vitro. Tricosane has been shown to induce monoclonal antibody production from mouse spleen cells and has a high affinity for the receptor sites in the brain. This molecule has been found to be active at pH 7-8 with an optimum at pH 6.5-7.0
