Description:

Abamectin is a molecule that is used as an insecticide and nematicide. It has been shown to have nematicidal activity in a variety of fungi, including the fungus Aspergillus niger. Abamectin is biosynthesized from the polyketide precursor avermectin B1a by a number of enzymes, including avermectin synthase and avermectin acylase. The two possible isomers are 2-(hydroxymethyl)cyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione and 2-(hydroxymethyl)cyclohexa-2,6-diene-1,4-dione. Experiments using the fungus Aspergillus niger have demonstrated that the 2-(hydroxymethyl)cyclohexa-2,5-diene-1,4-dione form of abamectin is more effective as a nematic
