Propyl isobutyrate is a metabolic product of the fermentation process. It is the ester formed by the reaction of propionate and butyric acid. Propyl isobutyrate has been found to be a cross-linking agent for polyvinyl acetate, which can be used as a polymerization initiator for vinyl chloride monomer in the production of plastics.
