Perfluorooctanonitrile (PFON) is a triazine, thioether molecule that has been shown to have bulk densities of 1.3 g/cm3 at room temperature and 2.6 g/cm3 at 100°C. The reaction temperature of PFON is limited to below 150°C due to its high reactivity with water, oxygen, and ozone. PFON is an organometallic compound that consists of a perfluorinated organic substituent and a pyridinium group. This compound has been studied for use as an additive in polymers, plastics, and coatings for its surface properties such as adhesion, oil resistance, hardness, and chemical resistance.
