Product Information
Tetrafluorophthalimide is an acylation reaction product of fluorine and phthalic anhydride. It has antiangiogenic properties and is used in the treatment of chronic oral diseases such as bowel disease. Tetrafluorophthalimide has potent inhibition of tumor necrosis factor-α (TNF-α) production, which may be due to its methylating effects on TNF-α mRNA. This drug also has industrial preparation uses and is used in the treatment of infectious diseases caused by bacteria and viruses. The drug binds to the receptors on cells that mediate inflammatory responses, leading to a decrease in inflammation. Tetrafluorophthalimide also has a chlorine atom which can be oxidized by strong oxidants such as hypochlorite, hypobromite, or ozone yielding chloride ions. In addition, it can be reduced back to tetrafluorophthalic anhydride by sodium sulfite yielding sulfur dioxide gas
