1-Fluoro-4-(methylsulfinyl)benzene (1FMSA) is a sulfoxide that can be used as an electron acceptor in aerobic oxidation. 1FMSA undergoes aerobic oxidation, which is catalyzed by molecular oxygen and generates hydrogen peroxide. 1FMSA can also function as a catalyst in the ionic liquid system by accepting electrons from the ionic liquid and transferring them to the organic substrate. This sulfoxide has been shown to be an effective electron donor for recycling of hydrogen peroxide, yielding high yields. 1FMSA can also be used in conjunction with other sulfoxides to generate peroxides with aliphatic chains.
