Amyl Ether is a chemical that is used as a catalyst in the synthesis of glycol ethers and detergents. It can also be used as a solid catalyst for the synthesis of fatty acids. Amyl Ether is made from an etherification reaction between sodium carbonate and ethanol. This chemical has been shown to have high chemical stability, which makes it suitable for use with trifluoroacetic acid, hydrogen fluoride, and fatty acids. The hydroxyl group on amyl alcohol can be oxidized by air to form amyl alcohol oxide, which is a strong base and can react with hydrogen fluoride to produce hydrofluoric acid.
