4-[(E)-(Hydroxyimino)methyl]phenol is a chemical that inhibits the enzyme tyrosinase. It is a competitive inhibitor of tyrosinase, which is an enzyme responsible for the production of melanin. The inhibition of this enzyme leads to reduced melanin production and can result in the treatment of autoimmune diseases such as vitiligo. 4-[(E)-(Hydroxyimino)methyl]phenol has also been shown to inhibit human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). This compound has a hydroxyl group and activity index of 2,000,000.
