Product Information

Name:
5-Norbornene-2-exo,3-exo-dimethanol
Synonyms:
  • Bicyclo[2.2.1]Hept-5-Ene-2,3-Diyldimethanol
  • (1R,2R,3S,4S)-bicyclo[2.2.1]hept-5-ene-2,3-diyldimethanol
Description:

5-Norbornene-2-exo,3-exo-dimethanol is a precursor to the synthesis of nanotubes. It is a ruthenium complex that has been shown to be able to form single and multiwalled carbon nanotubes in acidic environments. The diameter of the tubes can be controlled by changing the ring-opening conditions. The morphology and turbidity of the nanotubes can be controlled by copolymerization with other monomers such as norbornene or ethylvinylbenzene. This product has been shown to have an acidic environment that is suitable for use in pH dependent coatings.
