Product Information
- Quinazoline, 4-Methyl-
4-Methylquinazoline is a quinoline derivative that is used as a diagnostic tool in the detection of isovaleric acid and ethyl orthoformate. It can be prepared by reacting 4-methylbenzoyl chloride with ethyl orthoformate in a nonpolar solvent. The product can be purified by extraction from an ether solution with fatty acids. 4-Methylquinazoline reacts with isovaleric acid to form an ethyl ester, which can be detected by gas chromatography or mass spectrometry. This reaction has been used to detect the presence of faeces, which are rich in this compound.
4-Methylquinazoline also has synergistic effects when combined with other antibiotics such as piperacillin, which could lead to more effective treatments for infections caused by bacteria such as Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).
