Product Information

Name:
1,1-Dibromo-1-chloro-2,2,2-trifluoroethane
Synonyms:
  • 1-Chloro-1,1-dibromo-2,2,2-trifluoroethane
  • 1,1-Dibromo-1-Chloro-2,2,2-Trifluoroethane
Description:

1,1-Dibromo-1-chloro-2,2,2-trifluoroethane is a perfluorinated liquid that polymerizes in the presence of halides and tetrachloride. It is used in the production of copolymers with ethylene. 1,1-Dibromo-1-chloro-2,2,2-trifluoroethane reacts with benzoin to produce polyvinyl chloride (PVC). This reaction can be carried out at room temperature and atmospheric pressure and the yield is high. The transfer of chlorine from 1,1dibromo-1chloro 2,2,2 trifluoroethane to benzoin is an exothermic process. Reaction solution may contain chloride or fluoride ion present as byproducts.
