N,N-Dibutylformamide is an organic compound that is a member of the amide group. It has been shown to react with nitrite ion to form N,N-dibutylnitrosamine and with ammonia to form N,N-dibutylamine. This compound also reacts with histochemical stains such as methylene blue and can be used for histochemical staining of proteins. The long-term toxicity of this compound has not been studied in detail, although it has been shown to cause light emission when heated. N,N-Dibutylformamide can be synthesized by reacting dimethylformamide (DMF) with trifluoroacetic acid or hydroxyl group.
