Description:
Dimethyl hydrogen phosphate is a compound with the chemical formula H2PO2. It is an ester of phosphoric acid and dimethyl alcohol. Phosphoric acid is a strong mineral acid that reacts with water to form aqueous hydrogen phosphate and phosphoric acid. Dimethyl hydrogen phosphate has been used as an antimicrobial agent in water treatment systems, such as in the removal of bacteria from drinking water. Dimethyl hydrogen phosphate has been shown to be toxic at high concentrations, but the acute toxicity of this substance has not been well studied. The primary effect of dimethyl hydrogen phosphate on animals is its ability to cause severe skin irritation by forming strong hydrogen bonding interactions with skin proteins.
