Strontium oxalate is a laser-ablated material. It is synthesized by reacting strontium chloride with oxalic acid and sodium citrate in the presence of ethylene diamine. The reaction mechanism for this synthesis is based on the formation of metal hydroxides which are then decomposed to form strontium oxide and oxalate. This product can be used as a precursor for other materials such as zirconia, hydrochloric acid, and diamine tetraacetic acid.
