2,5-Dichlorobenzene-1,4-diol is an antibiotic that belongs to the group of boronic acid compounds. It has a molecular weight of 162.21 g/mol and a melting point of 155°C. 2,5-Dichlorobenzene-1,4-diol acts as an antibiotic by inhibiting the synthesis of proteins in bacteria. It does this by binding to the ribosomal RNA (rRNA) in bacterial cells and preventing the production of proteins necessary for cell division. The type strain for 2,5-Dichlorobenzene-1,4-diol is ATCC 14986. This molecule is not active against bacteria that are resistant to erythromycin or penicillin.
