2, 4-Dimethylbenzenesulfonic acid sodium (DMS) is a strong osmotic agent that has been used in the treatment of congestive heart failure. It has an activity coefficient of 1.05, which means that it can be used to maintain the volume of a solution in equilibrium with its surroundings.
