2-Phenethylbenzyl alcohol is a type of phenol that is metabolized by the cytochrome P450 (CYP) enzyme. It is an alkylating agent that binds to DNA, RNA, and proteins, leading to their modification or destruction. 2-Phenethylbenzyl alcohol has been shown to be effective in preventing cancer cells from growing and proliferating. The drug has also been found to inhibit the enzymatic activity of CYP enzymes and thus can be used as a probe for studying the role of these enzymes in mediating drug metabolism. This compound is highly reactive and can form covalent bonds with other molecules such as DNA, RNA, or proteins. The bond cleavage reaction catalyzed by 2-phenethylbenzyl alcohol has been shown to be inhibited by molybdenum. The deuterated form of this compound was found to have higher reactivity than its nondeuterated counterpart. 2-Phen
