Tantalum(V) methoxide is a white crystalline solid that is soluble in methanol and cyclohexanol. It has an unidentate ligand and a pyridine ring with two nitrogen atoms. Tantalum(V) methoxide can be used as a catalyst for the recycling of organic compounds, such as cyclohexanol, cyclohexanone, and methanol. The stability of tantalum(V) methoxide depends on the nature of its ligand. The complex decomposes when heated to 170°C in air or when heated to 250°C in vacuum and reacts with trimethylamine at room temperature.
