Clomiphene is a nonsteroidal, orally active drug that is used in the treatment of infertility due to anovulation. Clomiphene has been shown to increase serum levels of estradiol benzoate and inhibit ovulation. Clomiphene is a synthetic compound that is chemically related to citrate and can be administered orally or as an intrauterine device. It has been shown to have biological properties including leukemia inhibitory factor (LIF) activity and anti-inflammatory effects. This drug also inhibits the growth of some infectious diseases by interfering with the synthesis of DNA.
