3-Bromo-2-chromenone is a synthetic chemical that has been shown to have antiviral potency. It also suppresses the symptoms of autoimmune diseases and cancer. 3-Bromo-2-chromenone has been synthesized via a stereoselective, kinetic reaction involving coumarin derivatives and a nucleophilic attack on an electrophilic carbonyl group. The synthesis was done in microgravity, which may have contributed to the high yield of product obtained in this experiment. The optical properties of 3-bromo-2-chromenone are not yet known.
