Tert-butyl thiophene-2-carboxylate is a dibutyl ester of tert-butyl thiophene carboxylic acid. It is a colorless liquid that is soluble in organic solvents. Tert-butyl thiophene-2-carboxylate has shown to be a potent inhibitor of the enzyme myristoyl CoA:protein N-myristoyltransferase, which catalyzes the transfer of myristic acid from coenzyme A to protein substrates. It also inhibits 2,5-diketopiperazine reductase, an enzyme responsible for catalyzing the formation of 2,5-diketopiperazine from acetoacetate, and can be used as an antihypertensive agent.
