ω-Laurinlactam is an oxime that has a cyclic lactam ring and is a natural compound. It can be synthesized by the reaction of ω-chloroacetophenone with phosgene in the presence of water vapor. The compound has a high resistance to hydrolysis and oxidation, which are caused by natural or inorganic acids and phosphorus pentoxide. ω-Laurinlactam also has an amide group, which reacts with activated trifluoroacetic acid to form a polyamide. This polymerization process creates a high-molecular weight substance that is resistant to heat, light, water vapor, and air.
