Product Information
- Methyl 2-Hydroxynaphthalene-1-Carboxylate
Methyl 2-hydroxy-1-naphthoate is a naphthalene derivative that is used in the production of protocatechuic acid. The photostability of this compound has been studied and it has been found that the proton can be replaced by dioxygen, which leads to amide formation, or hydroxy group formation. This molecule also contains a carbon source, which can be oxidized to form a carbonyl group. The carbon atom in the methyl 2-hydroxy-1-naphthoate molecule can form intramolecular hydrogen bonds with another hydrogen atom or an oxygen atom. The hydroxyl group in this compound is aromatic because it forms four pi electrons when it reacts with another compound, such as an amine. 1-Hydroxy-2-naphthoic acid is formed when methyl 2-hydroxy-1-naphthoate reacts with an amine.
