1-(Morpholin-4-yl)-2-phenylethane-1-thione (MOPET) is a divalent alkylating agent that can be used to treat cancer. MOPET binds to DNA and RNA, causing crosslinkages and inhibiting cell growth. It forms covalent bonds with the N7 position of guanine in DNA, which disrupts the replication process. MOPET also reacts with an electron donor such as malonic acid or reactive oxygen species, generating electrophiles that react with DNA bases to form covalent adducts. The phenoxy group on MOPET is a reactive site for conjugation with biomolecules such as proteins, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, and lipids. The methoxy methyl group on MOPET is a reactive site for conjugation with biomolecules such as proteins, carbohydrates, nucleic acids, and lipids. The chloride anion present on M
