Description

Bicozamycin is a drug that belongs to the group of antimicrobial agents. It has been shown to inhibit the growth of c. glabrata and other infectious bacteria. Bicozamycin binds to bacterial RNA polymerase, preventing transcription and replication. This binding prevents the formation of an antibiotic-inhibitor complex with the enzyme cell wall synthesis that is required for cell wall biosynthesis, inhibiting protein synthesis and cell division. Bicozamycin also inhibits drug transporter proteins in human cells and has been shown to be effective against resistant mutants in vitro.
